Get Involved > Internships and Cooperative Work Opportunites

We’re proud to offer unique internships and cooperative work opportunities for students throughout the year in The Greening of Detroit’s education, urban agriculture and forestry departments.

AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps positions are frequently available through the Michigan AmeriCorps Partnership and the AmeriCorps*VISTA program.

Environmental Internships

Our model environmental education and community forestry internship programs were designed to provide undergraduate environmental studies students with training to establish strong community outreach and advocacy skills, and the opportunity to refine these skills by managing an environmental education or urban forestry project. Interns work under the direct supervision of the Greening of Detroit's Education and Outreach Coordinator and Urban Forester.  Environmental Education interns teach our Tree Keepers Kids program in the classroom, and conduct research on environmental education resources by developing and field testing lessons.

Forestry Interns

Forestry Interns work directly with community members to plan and implement a community planting, assist our Urban Forester with implementation of a full planting season, and take a major role in implementation of our Tree Keepers adult education seminar series.

The Greening hosts up to six environmental education and forestry interns each year, with internships lasting three to six months each, beginning in January, May and September. Interns work 16-45 hours per week, and these are paid positions.  Credit is available under the terms of the college or university attended by the intern.
