Are you looking for the perfect gift for any occasion, a lasting memorial for those who made an impact on your life, or simply a way to help reforest the City of Detroit? Look no further than the Gift of a Tree!

The Gift of a Tree program allows us to plant a grove of trees each year in the City of Detroit and is a beautiful gesture for any individual or occasion.

Each purchase of a Gift of a Tree includes a letter from The Greening of Detroit and commemorative certificate sent to you and to the recipient of your gift.

Each fall we invite all families and friends out to help us plant the Gift of a Tree grove. (Grove typically consists of 20-30 trees)

When you click on the purchase button a form will come up and you will be asked a series of questions regarding the occasion of your gift and recipient(s).

Saturday, October 18, 2025 | 9 am - 1 pm

Any Gift of A Tree donations after October 10, 2025 will be included in our 2026 Gift of a Tree planting.

  • Gift of a Tree is an annual event that takes place every fall around mid- October, on a Saturday.

    Our 2025 Gift of a Tree takes place Saturday October 18, 2025.

  • We will provide all tools needed and light refreshments. We just ask that you dress comfortably, also wear hard shoes. Feel free to bring a reusable water bottle to refill as needed.

  • This is a rain or shine event.

  • Our organization maintain the trees for three years post planting.

  • Unfortunately, our organization does not place plaques on our groves.

  • All trees are planted in the grove and can not be delivered to individuals.

  • We still greatly appreciate your attendance even if you can’t physically plant a tree. We have volunteers that will be planting with us.

    Please let our team know of any accommodations you may need and we’ll do our best to assist you.
