PART-TIME AND TEMPORARY FINANCE ASSOCIATE
Job Title: Finance Associate, Part Time & Temporary (20 – 25 hours a week)

Hourly Rate: $21.00/an hour
The Greening of Detroit is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working with residents, block clubs, community development corporations, schools, faith-based organizations and businesses to grow A Greener Detroit through planting and educational programs, workforce development, environmental leadership, advocacy and by building community capacity. Since 1989, we have worked to reforest the City of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park by planting over 166,000 trees while working closely with the City of Detroit and in 2024 we celebrated our thirty-fifth year of community service.
Position Description:
This is a part-time and temporary position, with the possibility of transitioning to full-time, depending on organizational growth. The Finance Associate works under the supervision of and provides direct support to the Director of Finance. The Director of Finance provides managerial direction in collaboration with The Greening of Detroit’s President and Vice President of Operations & Development.
Essential Position Responsibilities:
• Provides daily direct support for the Director of Finance as requested.
• Works with all staff to solve basic accounting issues and concerns.
• Manages financial duties associated with accounts payable and receivables.
• Interacts with professionalism when working with vendors, employees and the community.
• Processes invoices with expediency and accuracy.
• Prepares and submits invoices.
• Verifies and double checks expense coding submissions.
• Maintains and tracks project costs.
• Processes cash disbursements, deposits and assists with petty cash management.
• Prepares and enters journal entries in precise detail.
• Prepares account reconciliations and assists with month-end duties as needed.
• Assists with all internal and external reporting including the preparation of annual audit schedules.
• Attends meetings as required or requested.
• Completes other duties and projects as assigned, directed, or as requested to facilitate The Greening’s mission.September 2025

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration preferred, 1 – 2 years of Finance or Accounting experience with an Associate’s Degree may be considered.
• Working knowledge of the MIP Fund Accounting and GAAP.
• 2 – 3 years of accounts payables and receivable, general ledger, payroll processing, and accounting transactions is required. Experience with ADP Payroll systems is a plus.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
Compensation, Benefits and Perks:
This is an hourly position that does not offer health insurance benefits. However, The Greening of Detroit offers paid holidays and bereavement days.
